5 things to consider if you have no idea about how to start as a freelance content writer

If you are new to this industry but struggling with how to start your journey then consider the following points.

As a newbie, you may be confused about how to begin your content writing journey because the internet is swamped with various types of information and you have no idea what will work for you.

This is what I did as a beginner and these steps can help you out in carving your journey.

  • Consider enrolling in a short-term content writing course.

It's fantastic if you know how to get started in the early stages of content writing or if you're surrounded by people who can help you get started. If not, I recommend enrolling in a short-term content writing course to gain a better understanding of how to begin your journey. Unlike other courses, content writing courses do not require a significant amount of time or money.I personally joined a 2 weeks content writing course but if you don't want to take a course, start watching videos on YouTube but pick a mentor whose content you like and stick to it.

  • Develop the habit of reading and writing

Enrolling in any course does not guarantee that you will get your first gig because these courses are short-term and they will provide you with guidance and overwhelm you with tasks. It is up to you to be proactive in asking as many questions as possible during your course and completing all of the tasks. Moreover, begin writing from the very first day after enrolling in the course, and this will continue throughout your content writing journey. You must be consistent in writing your content because it is a skill that you are not born with and you have to polish it daily.

You can't be a good writer until you're a good reader, therefore get into the habit of reading so that you can become a better writer.

  • Apply for internship

It is important to apply for an internship as soon as you finish your course or even if you are not taking any course, it's important to apply for an internship because an internship will help you master the basics and develop the habit of writing with enough samples to help you create a good portfolio for future opportunities. Don't spend too much time wondering if your internship will be paid or unpaid. You may get an unpaid or low-paid internship at first, but don't commit to a long-term unpaid internship.  You can take it for 15 days or not more than 2 months . Internshala is the best platform for getting your first gig.

  • Start promoting your content

Gone are the days when you didn't talk about your work and skills. If you don't talk about it or share it, no one will get to know about your work. So, even if you're a beginner, don't be afraid to publish and share your content. It will help you get feedback and increase your chances of getting new opportunities. Choose any social networking platform that works for you, however, LinkedIn and Twitter are the finest platforms for showcasing your work. Moreover, be consistent in posting about your work.

  • The network is the net worth

In today's world, your network is your net worth, therefore don't wait for people to approach you; start engaging with clients and other writers .  No matter how introverted you are, you must be an extrovert when it comes to work. Moreover,  connect with as many people as possible to discuss your work. Try to connect with at least 5-10 people on LinkedIn every day; it works, believe me.

Final Thoughts

Nothing comes easily, but if you are passionate about your work, you will not even realize you are working. Enjoy your work and be consistent. I may sound like "Gyani baba," because I used to think the same way. Fortunately, I discovered what I am, if not best then better at and I am enjoying every bit of it, and that is why I never mind going over and beyond for my work.

So that's all for today's newsletter, let me know your thoughts on it . If you enjoyed today's newsletter, please like and share it with your friends and family and on social media. I'll see you next saturday; till then, keep hustling.
